Black Wood Wild Peated is a German single malt from the Wild distillery in Gengenbach, bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. The youngest whisky in it has spent at least twelve years in small casks. It is unfiltered and has no added colour.
The whiskies are matured separately in Black Forest oak, Amarone wine casks and Muscatel wine casks, and only married after maturation. Muscatel adds sweetness and spice, while Amarone brings tannins and structure. The barley is dried over peat fire, and the spirit is triple distilled.
The nose is honey, orange, melon and pear with vanilla and caramel, and oak and smoke in the background. Exotic fruit and bitter orange lead the palate. The long finish is vanilla-led, with a salty, peaty tail.
