Blackforest Wild Whisky Peated (50cl, 42%)

Blackforest Wild Whisky Peated is a six-year-old single malt from the Black Forest in Germany, bottled at 42% in a 50cl bottle without added colouring. The local summer barley is dried over a peat fire. After a quick fermentation, the mash is distilled together with the solid parts of the barley rather than separated first, which gives the whisky a deliberately rougher character. It is distilled twice and then matured for six years in three different casks. The nose is salty, with fine iodine, restrained peat, smoke, seaweed and a light fruitiness. The palate is very soft yet full-bodied, with plenty of caramel, nutty notes and a little sweetness. Smoke lingers in a full, powerful finish.
