Blair Athol – 12 Year Old 2006 Thompson Brothers (70cl, 50%)

This is a 12 year old single malt from Blair Athol, a 2006 vintage bottled by Thompson Brothers at 50% in a 70cl bottle. It spent over 12 years in two casks, a 2006 refill barrel and a 2011 refill hogshead, and 547 bottles were filled. The first documented evidence of the distillery on its present site dates from 1798, when John Stewart and Robert Robertson founded it as Aldour, after the Allt Dour, the 'burn of the otter'. The nose is herbaceous and bright, with citrus zest, boiled sweets, mint and red apple skins. The palate brings lime peel, blackcurrant, black pepper, orange oil and clove. The finish is long, with wine gums, herbs and a touch of florality.
