This is a Blair Athol single malt distilled in 1993 and aged for 23 years in ex-sherry European oak casks. It is a limited edition at 58.4% ABV, in a 70cl bottle. It is also the first time the Highland distillery has appeared in Diageo's Special Releases.
The whisky has Blair Athol's nutty, spicy character, with candied peel, baked apples, chocolate and fruit cake.
The nose opens vinous and drying, then turns to peanut brittle, honey, toffee, baked banana, tarragon and mint. The palate is rich and sweet, with barrel char, liquorice, treacle toffee and spiced cooking apple. The finish is fragrant and spicy, with mint creams and soft oaky spice.
