Blair Athol 1995 is a 22-year-old Highland single malt from a sherry butt, bottled as a single cask at 57.2% ABV. It is the Black Knight in The Chess Malt Collection, a series of Scottish single malts issued as chess pieces, and it was released on 1 May 2018. Distilled in 1995, it is at cask strength with no added colour and no chill filtration.
Oloroso sherry shows on the nose, alongside toffee, orange, vanilla, ginger and a hint of black pepper. The palate is creamy and sweet, with plum, toffee, spices, raisins and a slight nuttiness. The finish is silky, with sweetness, spices, toffee and a hint of grapefruit.
