This is BM Signature 21 Years Old, a single malt from the Rouget de Lisle distillery in the Jura, France. It is described as the oldest French single malt to date. Distilled in 2003, it is a single cask, number 2003/009, bottled at its natural strength of 52.14% in a 70cl bottle. Only 190 bottles were filled.
The whisky matured entirely in a 125 litre ex-vin jaune cask, which gives it an oxidative note recalling the wine.
The nose shows fresh and toasted walnut, almond, hazelnut, heather honey and liquorice. The palate is broad and rich, with toast, fine spices, dried fruit and orangettes. The finish is very long, with beeswax, savagnin, soft pepper and dark chocolate.
