Boann – Madeira Cask

Boann Madeira Cask is an Irish single pot still whiskey from the Boann Distillery. The mash bill is malted and unmalted barley, oats and rye, all grown in Ireland. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour. It matured first in heavily charred American oak ex-bourbon casks from Brown-Forman in Kentucky. It was then finished in 350-litre French oak casks that had held cognac and then Justino's Madeira wines on the island of Madeira. The nose has apples, peaches, honey and toasted oak spice, with a hint of flowers. The palate is velvety, with peaches and cream, vanilla, walnuts, dried fruit cake and delicate minerality. The finish is long and crisp, with lemon oil and lingering spice.
