This is an 11-year-old Islay single malt from Bowmore, released as the Essence of Islay edition and bottled by the distillery in 2025. It is 40% ABV, in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks and Spanish oak sherry casks. Walnut brittle, dark chocolate and fresh sourdough bread give nutty, darker tones, while red berries, lemon, mango, pepper and nutmeg add fruit and spice. Peat smoke runs through it.
On the nose are sweet lemon tuile, walnut brittle and dried red fruits, with liquorice root, sourdough and earthy smoke. The palate brings candied lemon, fresh mango, crushed peppercorns and dark chocolate, then pine resin and strong peat smoke. Campfire smoke, lemon cream and pine linger in the finish.
