This is a 14 year old Islay single malt from Bowmore, bottled at 43% ABV. It spent its first twelve years in ex-bourbon casks of American oak, followed by a two-year finish in Bordeaux barriques that previously held Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines.
The nose combines restrained, spicy smoke with ripe cherries, raspberries and blackberries, resinous pine and a touch of sea salt. On the palate, Islay smoke meets a fine saltiness, with juicy apples, blueberries and dark plums.
