This is an 18-year-old Islay single malt from Bowmore Distillery, on the shores of Loch Indaal. It was matured mainly in sherry-seasoned and bourbon casks and is bottled at 43% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
The long ageing softens the peat smoke, which sits alongside dark fruit, chocolate and gentle spice, with a touch of salinity from the coast.
The nose combines gentle peat smoke, sea breeze and iodine with dark chocolate, dried figs, espresso and orange peel. The palate is full-bodied and smooth, with toffee, cocoa, dried fruit and toasted oak. The finish is long and warming, with smoke, spice and dark fruit.
