Bowmore 18 Years Old is an Islay single malt, bottled at 43% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
Bowmore runs its own maltings, where the peat is crushed before burning so that it gives more smoke than heat. The smoking is shorter than for the more intense Islay whiskies, and the peat character is described as sandy rather than rooty. Up to 30% of the malt matures in sherry casks, adding a complex, fruity character.
This eighteen-year-old is balanced, with a clear sherry influence.
