Serpent's Ember is an 11 year old Highland single malt from Blair Athol, released by Brave New Spirits in Batch 3 of its Whisky of Voodoo series. It is a small-batch bottling at 53.2% ABV.
The whisky was matured in first-fill rum casks and second-fill Islay hogsheads, a pairing that brings tropical sweetness and a little smoke to the Highland malt.
The nose offers rum raisin, malted barley, tropical citrus zest and red apple, with a touch of smoke. The palate is creamy and full-bodied, with vanilla, banana and dried apricot. The finish is medium-long, with apricot pastry and faint embers.
