This is the 2014 vintage of Islay Barley, an eight-year-old single malt distilled on Islay by Bruichladdich. It is bottled at 50% ABV, non-chill-filtered and with no added colouring.
The barley is all grown on Islay, and the malt is peated to roughly 40 ppm. Maturation was in first-fill bourbon barrels for about 84%, with 8% in second-fill virgin oak and 8% in second-fill Bordeaux wine casks.
The nose is digestive biscuit, vanilla, honey and crème brûlée, with apricot, ripe melon and citrus peel. The palate has clean smoke, vanilla custard, toffee and ripe pear. The finish is long and warming, with salted caramel, oak char and citrus zest.
