Bushmills 16 Year Old is a single malt Irish whiskey from the Old Bushmills Distillery in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is made from unpeated malted barley and triple-distilled in copper pot stills. It comes in a 75cl bottle at 40% ABV.
The whiskey matures separately in charred American oak ex-bourbon barrels and Spanish Oloroso sherry butts. The two are then married and finished for roughly 6 to 12 months in port wine pipes.
Tasting notes describe red berries, cherries and dark honey on the nose, and a silky palate of caramelised peach, prunes, milk chocolate and toffee. The finish is medium to long, with berry compote, roasted nuts and a light wine-tannin dryness.
