Caol Ila 12 Years Old is an Islay single malt matured for 12 years in American oak ex-bourbon casks, in a 75cl bottle. The distillery was built in 1846 by Hector Henderson, close to Port Askaig, and its tall, onion-shaped stills give the spirit a light, elegant character.
The nose is peaty and smoky, with distinctive floral notes. On the palate it is soft, with iodine, seaweed, a slightly medicinal edge and salt, alongside sweet fruit and honey. The finish is dry and peppery, with a little smoke.
