This is a Caol Ila 26 year old from Islay, distilled in 1977 and bottled in 2003 by Douglas Laing for their Old & Rare The Platinum Selection. It is bottled at 57.7% ABV in a 70cl bottle, without chill filtration or added colouring.
The whisky spent 26 years maturing in oak casks.
The nose carries sea salt air, sweet peat smoke, iodine and seaweed, balanced by honey, orchard fruit and vanilla oak. The palate is oily, with smoky peat, black pepper and sea salt, softened by toffee, dried fruit and a little citrus. The finish is very long, with medicinal peat, brine and oak spice, moving towards vanilla and dried fruit.
