This is a 43 year old single malt from Caperdonich, distilled in 1979 and bottled in 2023. It matured in a refill sherry butt, number 1105, and was chosen by Gordon & MacPhail for its Private Collection. It forms part of the Recollection Series, which looks at lost distilleries. The outturn is 246 bottles. The nose brings creamy caramel and roasted almonds with ripe orange, while savoury thyme and fine oak add structure. The palate has sultanas and dates alongside bitter chocolate and orange, with a little cinnamon. The finish is long, with gentle oak spice and a restrained sweetness that fades slowly.
