This is a 12-year-old Cardhu Pure Malt from Speyside, made for travel retail and bottled in 1980 at 40% in a 1 litre bottle. It was distilled in the late 1960s, in the days of direct heat distillation.
The whisky was matured in ex-bourbon casks for twelve years, which add vanilla, toffee and a gentle honey sweetness.
The nose is fresh and sweet, with pear, green apple, light citrus, honey and heather. The palate is soft and smooth, with apple, pear, mandarin and vanilla, and the finish is short to medium, gently drying, with honey, barley sugar and vanilla.
