This Cardhu is a 14 year old Speyside single malt, distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2021 for Diageo's Special Releases, at a cask strength of 55.5% ABV in a 70cl bottle. Its subtitle is The Scarlet Blossoms of Black Rock, and its label ties into the Legends Untold theme of that year's releases.
It was first matured in refill American oak casks, then finished in red wine casks, which adds a subtle red fruit sweetness while the Cardhu character stays at the centre.
The nose is floral and grassy with apples, honey and sweet barley, and the palate brings orange blossom, peaches, cinnamon and black pepper. The finish is long, with sweet vanilla and stone fruit.
