Ichiro's Malt Mizunara Wood Reserve is a Japanese blended whisky from Venture Whisky, the company named after its founder, Ichiro Akuto. This is the 2024 release, in a 70cl bottle. It was matured, married and bottled at Chichibu distillery in Saitama Prefecture, and is rumoured to be a vatting of Hanyu and Chichibu whiskies. The casks were Mizunara, the rare Japanese oak.
Honey and freshly sawn oak lead on the nose, with mandarin, candied plums, apple, apricot, cloves and marzipan. The palate brings incense, light ash, honey, caramel and vanilla, with a tannic edge. The finish is aromatic, with coconut flakes and a drying bitterness.
