On The Way 2019 is the third edition of this Chichibu series from Ichiro's Malt, a Japanese single malt made up of 52 casks aged between 5 and 10 years. Most are first-fill ex-bourbon casks, alongside some second-fill Chibidaru casks, Mizunara (Japanese oak) hogsheads and a share of peated whisky.
The nose is very fruity, with apple, pear, fresh pineapple and a hint of coconut. The palate is rich, round and buttery with gentle spice, and the finish carries gentle charcoal notes with apple and tannic pear peel.
