A 2023 release of Japanese single malt from Chichibu, bottled at 50.5% in a 70cl bottle. It was matured in red wine casks from France, the United States, New Zealand and Japan.
Ichiro Akuto, grandson of the founder of the Hanyu distillery, started Chichibu in 2007 with two stills made by Forsyth's in Scotland.
The nose blends honey, fine wood, medlar, wild berries and citrus. The palate opens with red fruits led by blueberry, then citrus, mint, liquorice and cedar, with bitter cocoa and caramel sweetness. The finish is long, with clove, orangette and a lingering milk chocolate sweetness.
