This is the seventh edition of The Peated from Chichibu, the Saitama distillery that began distilling in 2008. The malt is peated to 50 PPM and was made during the distillery's annual month-long peated run. It is bottled at 50.5% ABV, non-chill filtered and with no added colour.
The single malt was matured mainly in ex-bourbon barrels, with oloroso sherry casks and re-coopered hogsheads alongside. The previous edition came out in 2022.
The nose offers elegant peat smoke with honey, caramel, ripe banana, toasted almond and citrus peel. The palate is soft and rounded, with ginger spice building, and the finish is long and rich with lingering sweet smoke.
