Compass Box Secrets of Smoke is a blended malt Scotch whisky in a 700ml bottle, at 52% ABV. Lead Whiskymaker James Saxon made it to bring out the sweetness beneath peated whisky's smoke.
It draws on Ardmore, Caol Ila, Laphroaig and Bowmore, plus two Compass Box blended malts, including Peat Monster. The casks are American oak, some re-charred, Palo Cortado sherry butts, refill red wine barrels and Marsala barriques. Released in September 2024 as 9,792 bottles, it is non-chill filtered and of natural colour.
The nose has toasted honeycomb, campfire embers and pine tar. The palate brings peat smoke, iodine, honey, cherry syrup and chocolate, and the finish is long and gently smoky.
