Compass Box The Peat Monster Cask Strength is a blended malt made from smoky malts of differing intensity. Caol Ila makes up 63.9 per cent, Williamson, both from Islay, 35 per cent, and a Highland malt 1.1 per cent.
It matures in American oak, French oak and custom-made casks, then is finished in virgin American oak casks that previously held grain spirit. The maturation tempers the smoke. It marks twenty years of Compass Box.
The stronger smoky malts give intensity, while the medium-smoke malts add a subtle sweetness.
