A 37 year old Cragganmore distilled in 1986 and released as a Special Edition of Whisky Sponge by Decadent Drinks. It was bottled in 2024 at natural cask strength, 52% ABV, in a hand-blown cognac glass bottle, with 72 bottles filled.
The whisky spent 30 years in a refill hogshead, then five years in a first fill port barrique and a little over two years in a second fill barrel. The result is rich and complex, closer in profile to a long maturation in refill sherry wood.
It is described as having mentholated notes, scented resinous hardwoods, crystallised fruits and waxes, with rich notes of long-aged dessert wines and herbal liqueurs.
