Craigellachie – 13 Year Old Armagnac Cask Finish (46%)

This is a 13 year old Craigellachie single malt from Speyside, finished in ex Bas-Armagnac casks. It is bottled at 46% ABV without chill-filtration. Craigellachie was founded in 1891 by Edward and Mackie. The distillery still uses traditional worm tubs for cooling, which are credited with the spirit's meaty texture and a faint sulphur note. The Armagnac finish adds a rustic, fruity depth to that sturdy distillate. The colour is a rich gold-amber. The nose combines caramel, shortbread, candied pineapple and a little bonfire smoke. The palate is full-bodied, with baked apple, cinnamon and buttery pastry. The finish is medium in length, with toffee, roasted coffee and tropical fruit.
