Dewar's The Ancestor is a 12 year old blended Scotch whisky, named after the company's founder, John Dewar. Malt and grain whiskies are first matured separately in oak for at least twelve years. Master blender Stephanie Macleod then marries them, and the blend goes back into oak casks for further ageing. It is bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle.
Malt and honey sit at the centre of its flavour, with fruity and floral notes and a slight touch of smoke.
The nose combines juicy fruit, creamy malt and floral accents, with toasted barley, almonds and a little honey. On the palate come barley malt and warm buttered toast, with honey and aniseed spice. The finish keeps strong malt and sweetness, with a hint of smoke.
