Douglas Laing Big Peat Small Batch (70cl, 46%)

Big Peat is an Islay blended malt Scotch whisky from Douglas Laing, in a 70cl bottle at 46% ABV. It brings together single malts from across the island, including spirit from Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and Port Ellen. It is made in small batches and bottled without chill filtration. It first appeared in 2009 as part of the Remarkable Regional Malts range, and the fisherman on the label has become a familiar sight on later Big Peat releases. The tasting notes describe sweet peat, smoke and ash with a salty, coastal character, along with tar and chimney smoke. The finish is long and lingering.
