Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch H-40 is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Heaven Hill in Bardstown, aged 12 years and 8 months in new charred oak. It is bottled at 62.2% ABV (124.4 proof) in a 75cl bottle, uncut and without chill filtration.
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is released in dated batches, each at the strength it reaches in the barrel, and this is the H-40 batch.
The nose offers concentrated caramel, toasted oak, vanilla bean, baked apple, orange peel and cinnamon. On the palate there is rich vanilla, dark caramel, butterscotch, seasoned oak, black pepper and baking spice. The finish is long and layered, with caramel, cinnamon, toasted oak and pepper.
