ElsBurn The Journey 12 Years Old is a single malt from Hercynian Distilling Co. in the Harz. It is the first time the distillery has given its flagship an age statement. The Journey is better known as a yearly edition, and this 12 year old adds a standard expression to the range. It is made from barley and chocolate malt.
The whisky matured only in first fill casks that previously held sherry, port, Marsala and Malaga. Batch 1 was bottled in 2024 at 46%, in a 70cl bottle, with an outturn of 1,000 bottles. It is natural colour and non-chill-filtered.
It is described as having dark fruit, chocolate and spice.
