Gilles Brisson Excellence is a Grande Champagne 1er Cru de Cognac from a family-owned house with 25 hectares of vineyard, all in Grande Champagne. It is bottled at 40% and carries a 30 year age statement.
The grapes are picked in mid-October, fermented and distilled in small batches in copper stills until 15 January. Only the heart of the run is put into oak barrels and aged in the family's cellar.
The nose offers vanilla, hazelnut, caramel, warm spices, mocha and cedar, with a touch of toasted smoke, then milk chocolate, ginger and rose petals. The palate is intense and powerful yet velvety and round, with prunes, figs and marzipan, and a very long finish.
