Glen Garioch Virgin Oak is a Highland single malt matured entirely in new North American white oak casks, the same fresh-wood approach used for American bourbon. It was first released in 2013 and bottled in small batches at 48% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
It is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour. Glen Garioch dates its distillery to 1797.
The nose brings oats with a touch of brown sugar, pine wood, resin and plenty of vanilla from the new casks. The palate is oily and spicy-sweet, with ginger jam, chocolate cake, aniseed, caramel and butterscotch. The finish is fairly long and slightly dry, with ginger and pepper.
