This is a Glengoyne 17 year old bottled in the 2000s at 43% ABV. The distillery stands at Dumgoyne in the Campsie Fells, north of Glasgow, and the Glengoyne stream runs on into Loch Lomond.
The distillery is in the Highlands, while its casks mature in the Lowlands, and only warm air is used to dry the barley. This 17 year old won a gold medal at the San Francisco spirits awards in 2007.
The nose offers sherry, caramel and light rum over a background of raisin. The palate is creamy, smooth and sweet, with light rum and raisin, and the finish is sweet and not prolonged.
