Glenury Royal – 1971 23 Year Old Rare Malts Selection (70cl, 61.3%)

This is Glenury Royal, a Highland single malt from 1971, bottled at 23 years old in 1995 by United Distillers for its Rare Malts series. It was bottled at a cask strength of 61.3%, in a 70cl bottle. This edition won Best Single Malt Whisky at the 1996 International Wine & Spirit Competition. Its strongly sherry-influenced style introduced many whisky fans to the distillery, which had already been closed for ten years by the time it appeared.
