This is a 55 year old single malt from Glenury Royal, a distillery that has closed. It was distilled in 1970 and bottled in 2026 as part of the Diageo Rare Series.
The whisky matured in American oak hogsheads and then in European oak puncheons. Only 232 bottles were filled, without filtration and in natural colour.
The nose is dry, with apple and pear, light wood and a little smoke. The palate is velvety, with a fine sweetness and distinct gooseberry, while ginger spice builds behind. The finish is long, dry and spicy, with a hint of smoke.
