This is a Port Ellen single malt from Islay, distilled in 1981 and bottled in 2000 by Gordon & MacPhail for its Connoisseurs Choice range. Port Ellen is a silent distillery.
The nose is spicy and herbal, with a round sweetness and peat that is lighter and less medicinal than in other Islay whiskies of the same period. The palate is warm and soft yet intense, with earthy notes that turn to seaweed. The finish is long and rather dry without bitterness, ending malty-sweet and smoky.
