Hakushu 18 Year Old Peated Malt is a limited 100th anniversary edition, created to mark the centenary of Suntory Whisky. This single malt comes in a 70cl bottle at 48% abv and is made from malts selected from various casks, all aged for at least 18 years.
The Hakushu blenders work with peat, while mountain water from the area, filtered through ancient granite, softens the palate. The smoke is gentle and complex rather than dominant.
It opens with a spicy, peppery welcome, followed by a slow wave of smoke that deepens to reveal herbaceous notes and green fruity undertones.
