Hakushu 18 Year Old Peated Malt is a Japanese single malt in a 70cl bottle at 48% abv. This 100th Anniversary Edition was created to mark the centenary of Suntory Whisky.
It is made from selected malt whiskies, each aged for at least 18 years in various casks. The Hakushu Distillery blenders work with peat and use the mountain water of the area, filtered through ancient granite, to soften the palate. The smoke is less strong than in many peated malts and never dominant.
It opens with a spicy, peppery welcome, then a slow wave of smoke that deepens to reveal herbaceous notes and green fruity undertones.
