Hakushu Distiller's Reserve is a Japanese single malt from the Hakushu distillery in the foothills of Mount Kaikomagatake. Suntory released it in spring 2014, as one of two releases that season.
Both lightly peated and heavily peated malts went into it, giving a smoky, herbal character.
The nose is led by herbs: peppermint, pine and grass, with cucumber and melon. The palate carries these on, the mint turning sweeter, with a little citrus zest. The finish is long, with a waft of smoke. It is recommended for a Highball.
