Hakushu – Distiller's Reserve Single Malt (43%)

Hakushu Distiller's Reserve is a Japanese single malt from the Hakushu distillery, which stands at the foot of Kaikomagatake mountain. Suntory bottles it at 43%. Both lightly and heavily peated malts went into the blend, giving a smoky, spicy character. The nose is led by spice, with peppermint, pine and grassy notes, rounded out by cucumber and melon. The palate follows on, the mint turning sweeter as it develops, with a touch of citrus zest. A wisp of smoke runs through the long finish.
