Hudson Back Room Deal is a New York straight rye whiskey from Tuthilltown Spirits, bottled at 46% in a 750ml bottle. The mash is 95% New York-grown rye and 5% malted barley, aged for a minimum of three years in new charred American oak.
The finish sets it apart. Ex-Hudson bourbon barrels are sent to Scotland and filled with peated Scotch whisky, then returned to New York once emptied, where the rye spends a final period in them. It won a Double Gold medal at the 2022 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.
The nose is peat smoke with soft vanilla, ripe apricot and brown sugar. On the palate, black pepper, mint and rye spice sit alongside dark chocolate and caramel, and the finish is long and smoky.
