Ichiro's Malt Chichibu On The Way is a multi-vintage vat from Ichiro Akuto's Chichibu distillery, bottled in 2013 at 58.5% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
It combines whisky distilled at various times since the distillery opened in 2008, including some of its oldest, at around five years. All of it began in bourbon casks and was then finished in Mizunara, Japanese oak.
The nose opens with orange drops, vanilla, fresh peppermint and wood fragrance, over a malty sponge-cake sweetness. The palate has green herbs, orange confectionery, malt syrup, peppermint spice, coconut cream and vanilla pod. The finish brings rock melon, kumquat and cranberry in vanilla milk, with a chewy texture.
