Ichiro's Malt Wine Wood Reserve is a blended malt made at Chichibu Distillery by Venture Whisky, bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It belongs to the Leaf Series, which has a red-leaf label. The whisky is a vatting of Chichibu malt and selected overseas malts, finished in red wine casks, including French oak and Japanese casks from Katsunuma. It is non-chill filtered and has no added colouring.
The nose has grapes, cassis, strawberries, black cherries and apricots, with oak, toasted grain and pepper. The palate is rich and fruity, with berries, honey and a dark chocolate bitterness. The finish fades through ripe fruit, oak and lingering spice.
