Inchmurrin 12 y.o. (70cl, 46%)

Inchmurrin 12 Year Old is a single malt from the Loch Lomond Distillery at Alexandria in the Highlands. It is made from unpeated spirit distilled in the distillery's straight neck pot stills, whose cylindrical necks hold special plates that let the distillers control the cut points. The whisky matures for twelve years in three kinds of American oak: first-fill bourbon barrels, refill casks and re-charred casks. Master Blender Michael Henry brings them together. It is bottled at 46% without chill-filtering or added colour, in a 70cl bottle. Pear drops, sweet toffee and a little fresh-cut hay lead on the nose. Seville orange gives way to peach and apricot on the palate, then creamy fudge and vanilla. The finish is medium and peppery.
