Isaac Bowman Pioneer Spirit Port Barrel Finished Straight Bourbon (75cl, 46%)

Isaac Bowman Pioneer Spirit is a port barrel finished straight bourbon from the A. Smith Bowman Distillery in Fredericksburg, Virginia, bottled at 46% ABV (92 proof) in a 750ml bottle. It is named for Isaac Bowman, a Virginia militia officer in the American Revolutionary War. The bourbon spends roughly four and a half to five and a half years in new charred American white oak, then three to six months in used ruby port barrels from Virginia and Portugal. The batches are married in a large oak foeder using a modified solera process. The nose is winey and fruit forward, with ripe cherry, stewed fruit, mocha and cinnamon. The palate is soft and jammy, with caramel dipped cherry, raisin, plum, light molasses and baking spice. The finish is smooth and gently drying, with dried fruit and oak.
