John J. Bowman Pioneer Spirit Single Barrel is a Virginia straight bourbon from the A. Smith Bowman Distillery in Fredericksburg, bottled at 50% abv (100 proof) in a 750ml bottle. It is named after Colonel John J. Bowman, the eldest of the four Bowman brothers.
The spirit is triple distilled, with a final pass through a copper still called Mary, then aged for around ten years in new charred American oak. Barrels are hand selected and bottled one at a time.
The nose offers marmalade, soft biscuit, caramel, baked apple and honey. The palate is full bodied, with toffee, dark cherry, roasted nuts and cinnamon, and the finish is long and warming, with toasted oak and spice.
