Jean-Baptiste Jessiaume Rully 1er Cru La Fosse 2019

This red wine is made from Pinot Noir grown on 0.65 ha of the La Fosse Premier Cru vineyard in Rully. La Fosse lies in a hollow at the foot of the slope, with stony topsoil and limestone and clay below, giving excellent drainage and conditions for both white and red wines. The grapes are hand-harvested and further selected on arrival, then fully destemmed and gently crushed before a cool spontaneous fermentation with native yeast lasting about 30 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine ages for 15 months, including 12 months in 228-litre Burgundy barrels, 10% new. It has a bright ruby colour and an aromatic nose of blackcurrant leaf, wild cherry, wild blackberry, violet and wild rose, with the same tones on the palate and a charming, harmonious finish. It suits game birds, duck, lamb, veal, vegetable dishes and grilled fish.
