John Walker & Sons King George V is a blended Scotch whisky created to mark the royal warrant that King George V granted to Johnnie Walker in 1934. It recalls the style of blends made during his reign, from 1910 to 1936, and is bottled at 43% ABV.
The blend includes whiskies from Islay, Speyside and the Lowlands, among them Port Ellen, a distillery that has since closed. It matures in sherry-seasoned oak casks and comes in a crystal decanter inside a velvet-lined box.
The nose has dried fruit, dark chocolate and nuts, with orange peel, spice and peat smoke. The palate is silky, with raisins, caramel and roasted nuts. The finish is long.
