Johnnie Walker Oldest is the blend that became Blue Label. It was introduced in 1987 as a duty-free exclusive and renamed Johnnie Walker Blue Label in 1992. This is a 75cl bottle at 43%, in cream and navy packaging. It was made from mature whiskies, many distilled decades earlier, chosen to recreate the style of John Walker's nineteenth-century blends, including stocks from long-closed distilleries. The early bottlings stated that the blend held whiskies of roughly 15 to 60 years old, a statement dropped after the first few batches. Honey, dried fruits, polished oak, soft smoke, citrus peel, gentle spice and dark chocolate are the flavours it is known for.
